School's Out for Summer: Tips for a Happy, Healthy Summer Break

It has been a great school year! It has been wonderful working with all the students, parents, and staff.

During the summer break, it is easy to get caught up in the thrill of decreased responsibility.  The following tips can help you and your child have a safe, productive, and enjoyable summer.

1. Wake Up Early: Waking up early will give you more time to enjoy the beautiful summer day.  Nothing eats away at a summer break like sleeping all day.

2. Maintain Good Health: Summer is a great time to get in shape or stay in shape.  Consider joining a summer sport or in the very least, get outside and play everyday.  Remember to use sunblock and drink lots of water.

3. Read Everyday: Set aside a time to read on a daily basis. You will be grateful when you return to school.  Keep your brain active, so it is ready to learn when you return in the fall.

4. Follow a Routine: Even a loose structure will motivate you and keep hours spent doing nothing to a minimum.

5 .Learn Something New: Try something different that you know nothing about.  If you have always loved basketball, why not try swimming? Learn to write, draw, make photo albums, knit...the list goes on and on.  You will gain a new skill and possibly find a lifelong love.

I wish all of you a happy, healthy, and fun summer break!
